Devrai Rock Dhokra

Devrai Art Village is the birthplace of Devrai Rock Dhokra. Rock Dhokra is our patented process of fusing stone and metal using the ancient lost wax casting method to form a unified whole, giving us our identity as an art innovation lab. The artist’s eye is apparent in the visualisation of a tangible shape around a core piece of rock. The use of sculpted stone has given a new dimension to our Rock Dhokra creations.

It is a very labour-intensive process that starts with sculpting wax around a suitable stone, and later it is cast in metal (which replaces the wax). As the casting process involves breaking the mould each time, each piece made is unique and cannot be replicated, even by us!

With casting come inherent risks: stones can burst in the heat, moulds may break, or molten metal might not flow all the way through. That’s why every perfectly cast piece feels like a small miracle of stone and metal.
