This a brass sculpture of a tribal woman, carrying a pot og water on her head. She is standing on a wooden base, carved with the petals of a lotus. A piece of art can be interpreted in many different ways, and so is the case with this piece. At Devrai, we often think of her as the water of Ganga personified, with the snakes in her jewellery, and flowers in her clothes here and there.

About the Technique: Dhokra is an ancient form of metal art, also known as lost wax casting. The sculpture is made in wax first, a mould is made around it, and during casting the wax is replaced by brass, thus the name ‘lost wax casting’.
