Enamel Art

Enamel Paintings are the newest addition to Devrai’s experiments in metal art. Enamelling is the process of fusing powdered glass (or enamel) of various colours with metal (usually copper, silver or gold) by firing. Enamel Art, which is usually used in jewellery or ornamental artefacts, finds a new life at Devrai in the form of paintings. These paintings often require multiple firings, with various layers of enamel done on top of each other to get the correct depth and colours in a painting.

It is a highly technical art form where each colour needs to be fired at a specific temperature, for a specific duration, to get the perfect glaze. It is also an irreversible process and requires accuracy in each step. Any error in application or composition cannot be rectified once the enamel has been fired onto the metal surface.
