About the Technique: Dhokra is an ancient form of metal art, also known as lost wax casting. The sculpture is made in wax first, a mould is made around it, and during casting the wax is replaced by brass, thus the name ‘lost wax casting’.
Organic casting is an evolution of the Dhokra process, in which organic material (like leaves, fruits, flowers, shells, twigs etc) along with wax work is cast in brass. Through this process we are able to replicate the patterns and textures in nature. This piece is fusion of the two techniques- background madeusing organic casting and the dragonfly made with the Dhokra casting method.
