Forms of Nature

The ‘aha’ moments in nature allow you to slow down and take note of the environment around you, and see yourself as a part of the larger web of life, and not separate from it. This metal mural captures that moment of quiet stillness. The composition reflects the restful pause that nature offers.
The trees are made using repouss? technique on copper, the copper leaves are indivually cut and soldered onto the base plate. The background has enamel, and the sky blue colour is achieved by patination. The pair of deer in the foreground are made in brass using the lost wax casting process (Dhokra casting).

Materials: Enamel on Copper, Brass, Wooden Frame

About the Technique: Enamelling is the process of fusing colored powdered glass with a base metal through firing. This irreversible technique demands precision at every step. While commonly used in jewelry and ornamental artifacts, at Devrai, we apply it to create paintings. This often involves multiple firings and layering of enamel to achieve the desired depth and colors.
Dhokra is an ancient form of metal art, also known as lost wax casting. The sculpture is made in wax first, a mould is made around it, and during casting the wax is replaced by brass, thus the name ‘lost wax casting’.
